Hours after quadruple shooting, 2 more men shot in Central City

10 people were reported shot and wounded in less than 24 hours

NEW ORLEANS — Less than seven hours and about a mile from a shooting that wounded four men Monday afternoon, another two men were shot in Central City, police officials. 

According to initial New Orleans Police Department reports, officers responded to calls of shots fired at the intersection of Jackson Avenue and Willow Street around 9:30 p.m.

When they got to the scene, they found a 54-year-old man suffering with a gunshot wound to his hips, NOPD officials said. He was taken to the hospital via ambulance. 

A second man, 49, came to the hospital a short time later on his own, with gunshot wounds to his back and shoulder, NOPD officials said.  

Officials said the incident is under investigation. In this shooting, the man was found about a mile from the 2100 block of Fourth Street, the area where four men were reportedly shot around 3 p.m.

The six men total shot in Central City Monday comes after three other shootings wounded four people in New Orleans overnight -- marking 10 shot in the city in less than 24 hours.

That overnight gun violence came after two other people were hurt in shootings over the weekend. 

On Friday night, a 22-year-old  man was in the 3400 block of Hamilton Street in Hollygrove, a block from the Mt. Rock Baptist Church, when he was shot several times across the body, according to initial NOPD reports.

Around 5 a.m. Saturday, a 16-year-old told police he had been on his street in the 4800 block of Stephen Girard Avenue, between Piety and Desire drives in Gentilly, when he was shot, according to initial NOPD reports.
