Louisiana teacher alleged to have raped child on campus, sheriff's office said

Aubrey 'Perry' Norcross was hired by the Bossier school district in January 2003. He has taught at Benton Elementary since 2004, said Sonja Bailes, spokesperson for the Bossier Parish School district

BENTON, La. - A north Louisiana physical education teacher who was arrested earlier this week is now accused of raping an elementary school student on campus.

Aubrey "Perry" Norcross, 47, of the 2500 block of Waverly Street in Bossier City, was charged Friday with first-degree rape, according to the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office.

Norcross was arrested Wednesday and charged with video voyeurism involving a different student. The teacher is jailed at the Bossier Maximum Security Facility on $900,000 bail for the two charges.

A family member of a student at the school made a report against Norcross which led to the investigation, said Lt. Bill Davis, spokesperson for the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office.

"We take these reports of sexual assault and misconduct very seriously,” said Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington in a statement, “and we encourage children to tell someone they trust, whether it’s their parents, grandparents, principal, or school resource officer about any inappropriate touching or interaction. Tell someone."

Norcross was placed on administrative leave by the Bossier Parish School district following his arrest.

“The realization of what is alleged to have occurred is repugnant to us at Bossier Schools and we are deeply saddened and angered," the school district said in a news release after Norcross was charged with rape. "We will not let the charges brought against this individual tarnish the great work and quality learning that takes place every day in our schools. The school district has arranged for resources to be available to our children and parents that have concerns. Assistance is available by calling (318) 773-5146.”

Norcross was hired by the Bossier school district in January 2003. He has taught at Benton Elementary since 2004, said Sonja Bailes, spokesperson for the Bossier Parish School district.
