NEW ORLEANS — A man was arrested after allegedly stabbing a man to death in his New Orleans East apartment Thursday night.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, the stabbing happened around 7:37 p.m. in the 9000 block of Chef Menteur Highway. Officers arriving at the scene found a man with multiple stab wounds to his body. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say 58-year-old Darryl Hawthorne was at the scene and was detained for questioning. He was later arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on one count of second-degree murder.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will determine the official cause of death and release the man’s name at a later time.
