Man shot sitting in car outside The Hangover Bar, NOPD says

The man was shot in the leg waiting near the 7th Ward bar early Sunday morning, police say

NEW ORLEANS — Police are investigating an apparent shooting that wounded a man waiting outside a 7th Ward bar Sunday morning, NOPD officials said. 

According to initial police reports, a 30-year-old man was sitting in his car by the intersection of Elysian Fields Avenue and N. Claiborne Avenue, near the Hangover Bar, around 2:30 a.m. when he was approached by a man he didn't know. 

The suspect began a short conversation with the victim from outside the car then pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots at him, he told NOPD officers.

The man was hit in the right leg in the fire and was driven to the hospital shortly after for treatment for the non-life threatening injury. 

Police are investigating the incident, which was classified as an aggravated battery by shooting. 

The name of the victim has not been released. The name of the potential suspect or a motive have not been released. 

According to NOPD officials, it's the second shooting reported in Orleans Parish on Sunday. They are also investigating a fatal shooting in the St. Claude neighborhood Sunday afternoon.
