NOPD: 16-year-old shot in Gentilly drive-by

The shooting happened early Saturday morning, police say

NEW ORLEANS — An attack on a teenager early Saturday morning has opened another shooting investigation in the city, police officials announced.

Around 5 a.m. Saturday, a 16-year-old told police he had been on his street in the 4800 block of Stephen Girard Avenue, between Piety and Desire drives in Gentilly, when he was shot, according to initial NOPD reports.

The teen told police the gunfire came from a white sedan driving by. He reportedly ran into his house, then was taken to the hospital for treatment.

His condition was unlisted Saturday evening.

Police said they are investigating the incident, which they confirmed later Saturday morning, as an aggravated battery by shooting. No further information was available.

The shooting came hours after a man was reportedly shot and wounded in Hollygrove Friday night.
