NEW ORLEANS — Police arrested a man on Monday after he allegedly failed to steal money from a Popeye's and instead stole the restaurant's chicken.

According to arrest records, Phillip Lee, 27, was arrested on suspicion of simple robbery Monday morning after allegedly attempting to rob a cash register at the restaurant in the 8700 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

Police said Lee walked in and tried to steal money from the register. When the register would not open, however, Lee "stole some chicken and fled," a police report said.

Police found Lee a little before noon close to the area and arrested him.
