NEW ORLEANS — A man was recovering Tuesday after being shot in his leg twice Monday night, New Orleans police officials said. 

A 21-year-old man was shot twice in his leg around 8 p.m. in the 7900 block of Hammond Street, near Dwyer Road in the East, according to NOPD officials said.

Police responded to the shooting and found the man wounded inside his home. He told officers he was standing outside when he heard multiple gunshots and realized he had been struck. 

He was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance, where he was later listed in stable condition. 

No further information was available. 

It was the second shooting in New Orleans on Monday. Early in the morning, a man was shot and killed on St. Claude Avenue.
