NEW ORLEANS — We all hope for good weather on Mardi Gras, but we can’t really do much about it.  But we can do our best to keep ourselves and those we care about safe during Carnival.

So let’s review some parade safety tips:

• Don’t put ladders too close to curbs.

• Don’t try to “claim” public spaces. Mardi Gras is a public party. Let’s keep it that way.

• Bring only the essentials: your ID, some cash, one credit or debit card, and of course your phone.

• Make sure kids know where you are at all times, and vice versa. Give them something with your phone number on it if they get lost.

And, of course, put on a costume and have fun. Happy Mardi Gras!
