UPDATE: 7:40 State police say there have been no evacuations and no injuries on scene at Camp Minden. A combination of state and federal agencies are on scene and enroute to determine what happened. The explosion is said to have taken place at around 5 a.m. Police say it appears to have been only one explosion. The area of the explosion has been determined to be on Camp Minden near the intersection of Victory Street and Fourth Street. The Times reporter Miles Oliver and photographer Doug Collier are on scene. They say activities around base appear to be as normal, except for the entrance of emergency vehicles to the scene of the explosion. More details as they become available.

UPDATE: 7:11 Louisiana Senator Mike Walsworth, R-West Monroe, who is chairman of the Senate Environmental committee, said he was made aware of the situation earlier this morning. "Unfortunately, this is not surprising," he said. "This is a dangerous place and dangerous work and it will continue to be a concern until all of the hazardous materials have been disposed of."

UPDATE: 7:01 A Louisiana State Police helicopter is enroute to the scene of the explosion. State Police Colonel Mike Edmondson said all people have been accounted for on the scene, but any injuries remain unknown at this time. Edmondson said police are waiting for more daylight to be able to determine the extent of the explosion.

UPDATE: 6:46 a.m. State Police are now confirming that there was an explosion at Camp Minden. The size of the explosion and any damage or injuries remain unknown. Officers in Bossier City are expecting an update from the scene momentarily. The Times has a photographer and reporter enroute to bring you the latest news, photos, and video.

UPDATE: 6:18 a.m. Louisiana State Police have confirmed they are investigating what they believe to have been an explosion earlier this morning at Camp Minden in Webster Parish.

Police say it is unknown at this time whether there are injuries. The hazardous materials unit is on the scene investigating at this time. There are no known evacuations.

Lt. Jeff White has confirmed that the Troop G office in Bossier City is receiving calls of a possible explosion in Webster Parish early Thursday morning. Troopers are enroute to the area where the possible explosion was reported.

White said they have no information of any injuries or any further information connected to the reports at this time.
