NEW YORK — Independent Health and one of its subsidiaries have been sued in a federal whistleblower case, charged with using false risk adjustment information to increase claims amounts from the federal government.
The Amherst-based company, the region’s second-largest health plan, was named in a suit filed by Teresa Ross, a former medical billing manager at Group Health Cooperative in Seattle. Ross, who is represented by Buffalo law firm Personius Melber LLP, said her former employer ultimately collected $8 million in Medicare for 2010 services.
The suit, filed in federal court in U.S. District Court for Western New York under seal in 2012, was unsealed in July. You can read the full story on Buffalo Business First's website.
