JPSO deputy shoots at suspects after a chase through Metairie

The two suspects are still on the run a JPSO spokesperson says.

NEW ORLEANS — A Jefferson Parish Sheriff's deputy shot at two suspects following a traffic stop and brief chase through Metairie.

It happened just after 10:00 Wednesday night when deputies tried to pull over a vehicle near North Arnoult and the South I-10 Service Road.

The driver took off, eventually hitting another car at the corner of Manson Avenue and South I-10 Service Road, JPSO Captain Jason Rivarde says.

After the crash, the two suspects got out of the car armed with handguns and threatened the deputy who fired his weapon at the suspects as they fled on foot.

Rivarde says investigators believe the suspect the deputy fired at was injured during the incident, but it is unknown if his injury resulted from the car crash or the gunfire.

The car the suspects were in was reported stolen from New Orleans.

Investigators recovered a gun that was also found at the scene which was also reported stolen.

The two suspects are still on the run and deputies are actively searching for them.

Rivarde says detectives are gathering evidence at the scene to help identify the suspects and says at this time, it is unclear if the suspects are from New Orleans.

Jefferson Parish has seen recent incidents of crimes in the parish being committed by suspects from Orleans parish.

On January 12, a police chase on the west bank of Jefferson Parish crossed parish lines and ended with a crash on Terry Parkway.

In that incident, Rivarde said that the driver fled from JPSO when they attempted to pull them over, leading them on a chase across the west bank and into Plaquemines Parish.
