Bonnabel student arrested for bringing gun to school, JPSO says

The 18-year-old student surrendered without incident, deputies say.

JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — An 18-year-old Bonnabel High School student was arrested Thursday morning after bringing a gun to campus, deputies say.

According to Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office officials, Charles Smith, 18, was taken to parish jail after a student alerted school faculty that he was in possession of a gun.

Deputies responded to Bonnabel and Smith surrendered without incident, JPSO officials said. There were no injuries reported. 

It was not immediately clear what type of gun Smith allegedly had or what charges he may face. 

Deputies say they case was under investigation and no further information was immediately available.
