A Jefferson Parish government building sustained "significant" water damage this weekend after a sink was clogged on a top floor and flooded floors below, officials said.
The Jefferson Parish General Government Building, located at 200 Debrigny Drive, was a soaked scene after water from a sink pooled on the fifth floor, damaging carpet and equipment and leaking down to the fourth and third floors on the West side of the building.
Officials said the building will be open on Monday for normal hours despite the damage.
The issue appears to have been caused by what officials called a "janitorial mishap" by the parish cleaning contractor, Jani King. After the incident, that vendor was on site with members of the administration.
Parish officials said that emergency contractors were on site Sunday to "access and mitigate the damage."
