CHAUVIN, La. — A 2-year-old child found floating in an above ground swimming pool Sunday morning has died.
According to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office, family members found the child floating in the pool during a pre-parade party on Feb. 24.
"There was a large number of children and adults at the residence where this tragic accident occurred," officials said.
A nurse immediately began CPR on the child until firefighters and EMS arrived and took over.
The 2-year-old was rushed to the Terrebonne General Medical Center and put on life support. He was later taken to Ochsner in New Orleans.
According to police, the 2-year-old died on Feb. 27.
Police are investigating the child's death as an accidental drowning.
