BATON ROUGE -- Les Miles and LSU have finally reached an agreement on the money owed to the former Tigers football coach.

According to a statement sent by the university, both parties agreed to a one-time lump sum payment of $1.5 million out of the remaining $6.5 million owed through 2023.

Miles was fired mid-season in 2016 while still owed about $9.6 million. That money would have been paid out in installments over the course of six years.

"It's time for both parties to move forward," Director of Athletics Joe Alleva said. "One of hte challenges o the buyout that was in place was there just wasn't a lot of incentive to move on to other things. We were looking to provide that and Coach Miles and his representatives also were ready. It was a mutually agreed upon goal and a very positive process from beginning to end."

Les Miles has been recently linked ot the head coaching vacancy at the University of Kansas. The timing of Thursday's news could be a sign that Miles will take the job.
