SLIDELL, La. — Two men were arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Slidell Saturday night that allegedly stemmed from a drug deal turned robbery, a spokesperson with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies arrested Montreal Delaney on charges of second-degree murder and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. Ferdinand Everidge was booked on charges of attempted armed robbery and aggravated assault with a firearm.
Both are 19.
Sunday, the St.Tammany Parish Coroner identified the victim as Andrew Thomas, a 20-year-old from Slidell.
Sheriff's deputies were sent to the 37000 block of Jones Road after a reported shooting around 9:30 p.m.
According to investigators, Delaney went to the location to sell drugs to the victim, who has not been identified Sunday.
The victim and Everidge allegedly tried to rob Delaney when he arrived, leading to a shootout between Everidge and Delaney.
The victim was shot in the chaos, STPSO officials said.
He was taken to a hospital, where he died. The press release sent by the STPSO's public affairs office did not give any details about the victim's age or identity, pending notification of his next of kin.
Delaney and Everidge were both booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail.
