JEFFERSON PARISH – The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man after he allegedly tried to hit a deputy with a car while fleeing the scene of a theft.

The incident occurred on Saturday around 5:10 p.m. when deputies responded to a theft at a business in the 4100 block of Peters Road in Harvey. The sheriff’s office says, the suspect was identified as driving a grey Acura TL.

A deputy saw the vehicle near the intersection of Post Drive and Woodmere Boulevard and attempted to stop the vehicle, however the car fled.

The car, driven by 32-year-old Bill Rumfield of Marrero, came to a stop on Alex Kornman Boulevard and the deputy attempted to approach the vehicle. Rumfield began to flee and tried to strike the deputy with the vehicle, the sheriff’s office says.

The deputy fired at the vehicle, however Rumfield was able to escape.

It is not known at this time if Rumfield was injured.

Anyone with information on Rumfield’s whereabouts is asked to call Detective Kurt Zeagler at 504-364-5300 or contact Crimestoppers.
