NEW ORLEANS – The National World War II Museum in New Orleans commemorated Memorial Day Monday with a series of events on its campus.

Hundreds gathered at the U.S. Freedom Pavilion Monday morning for a commemoration ceremony. The ceremony featured families of fallen service members.

One of the speakers was 13-year-old Preston Sharp, the founder of Flags & Flowers for Vets. The organization honors veterans across the United States by placing flowers and flags on graves of fallen soldiers. Flags & Flowers for Vets has placed more than 60,000 flags across the country.

The Marine Corps Band New Orleans was also in attendance to pay tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

The museum will also join citizens across the country in a National Moment of Silence for five minutes from 3 p.m. to 3:05 p.m. Monday.
