NEW ORLEANS -- One man is dead after a fatal three-alarm fire ripped through a home in Central City early Thursday morning. New Orleans Fire Department was called to the scene shortly after 2 a.m. in the 2300 block of S. Prieur Street.

NOFD reports two people were inside the home when the fire started. One adult man was unable to escape. The man who died was reportedly confined to a wheelchair.

Family members said the man's name was Roger Clay and he was in his 50s.

NOFD Superintendent McConnell said the house did not have working smoke alarms and may not have had working electricity. The cause remains under investigation.
