NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans Fire Department battled a three-alarm fire around 8 p.m. Tuesday night in the Village De L'Est area of New Orleans East.

According to NOFD, firefighters responded to a 911 call int he 14000 block of Peltier Drive where a two-story, multi-family dwelling was engulfed in flames coming through the roof and spreading to the building next door.

The family living in the house told firefighters they were sitting down for dinner after preparing a meal on the patio area. The family said they investigated a noise out back and found the rear of their house on fire.

In total, four multi-unit structures were heavily damaged by fire and eight people were displaced. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
