NEW ORLEANS -- The New Orleans Police Department responded to a two-alarm fire Sunday in the Seventh Ward.

It happened around 1 p.m. in the 2400 block of St. Bernard Ave. Three homes were involved in the fire.

When firefighters arrived, they said they found a shed in the back of an empty double home fully engulfed in flames and extending into two other sheds. The fire initially involved only sheds of three properties, but authorities said flames began extending to back walls of the three homes.

Authorities said each of the properties had very small backyards with sheds just a few feet away from each house. All three sheds were completely destroyed by the fire, however, fire officials said no homes were damaged.

Officials said only one of the properties involved had a family living in the home.

According to NOFD, 45 firefighters responded to the incident.

Officials said a cause of the fire has not been determined yet.
