The New Orleans Police Department is looking for a woman after she allegedly kidnapped a three-year-old girl on Saturday, November 17 in the 3400 block of Audubon Court.

Kellie Edwards Diggs, 26, the birth mother of 3-year-old Melanie Edwards, asked permission from Edwards’ legal guardian to spend the night at Diggs’ home, under the agreed-upon condition that Diggs return the child on Sunday, November 18.

Police say Diggs has no custodial rights to Edwards.

When Edwards’ guardian tried to pick the child up, Diggs reportedly discontinued all contact with the guardian by turning off her cellphone and blocking her on social media. According to police, the guardian did not have another way to contact Diggs and asked help from NOPD.

A warrant was obtained for Diggs’ arrest for interference with the custody of a child.

A photo of Diggs is not available.

Anyone with information about Edwards’ or Diggs’ whereabouts is asked to call NOPD Second District detectives at 504-658-6020 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
