Body found near the Rigolets in St. Tammany Parish

ST. TAMMANY PARISH -- The Sheriff's Office discovered a dead body on Highway 90 near the Rigolets Friday morning.

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office's Major Crime unit was sent to the scene to investigate and the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office was notified. Coroner Dr. Charles Preston has ruled the death a homicide.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance with identifying the body.

According to the sheriff's office, the body was found around 7 a.m on Highway 90, just south of the intersection of Highway 433 and Highway 90. The body was badly decomposed and the person appeared to have been deceased for several days.

Authorities believe that the body was dumped at the location - a sign of foul play occurring elsewhere.

The coroner determined that the body was that of a male, approximately 5-feet-10, with a scar on his chest from a prior open heart surgery. Due to the level of decomposition, age and race were unable to be determined.

Authorities are attempting to utilize DNA as a means to obtain further information about the identity of the body.

Detectives have contacted neighboring law enforcement agencies to compare missing persons to that of the body found in St. Tammany Parish early this morning. So far, there have been no positive identifications.
