SLIDELL – An overdose by a 43-year-old woman set in motion a series of events that ended up with two people dead, another in critical condition and a fourth person injured, according to Slidell Police.

All of the circumstances aren't known by officers, but, they believe the events began with a call around 10 p.m. of a woman who had died of a drug overdose on Gwen Drive.

Police say that 29-year-old Joshua Cox found out about his mother's death and that he and his wife jumped into a car and headed for the hospital.

Along the way, police said Cox got into an argument with his wife and shot her. He dropped her off at Slidell Memorial Hospital and then drove off. The victim was said to be stable and is expected to recover.

Several hours later, around 4:30 a.m. Friday, police received a call about another shooting at an apartment complex on Lee Street. Upon arrival officers found Joshua Cox lying shot on the ground. He was rushed to the hospital and was in critical condition as of Friday night.

While officers were investigating Cox's shooting, they discovered the dead body of another man, identified as 38-year-old Christopher Evans, inside a vehicle in the same complex parking lot.

Police arrested a man in connection with Cox's shooting and say he is cooperating with the investigation.

“This is a very complex investigation with a lot of moving parts. At this time, we believe all suspects, including their whereabouts, have been identified,” Chief Randy Fandal said. “Our investigators are still piecing together all events that happened last night and early this morning. We will release more details as soon as we are able to do so.”
