Student arrested for social media threats against Hammond High School

The threats prompted the school to close both Monday and Tuesday and resulted in added security details being added.

A 16-year-old Hammond High School student was arrested Tuesday afternoon after making social media threats against the school.

The threats prompted the school to close both Monday and Tuesday and resulted in added security details being added.

The 16-year-old boy has been charged with communicating false information of a planned bombing on a school property and taken to a juvenile facility.

The school will resume classes Wednesday.

Tangipahoa Parish Schools Superintendent Melissa Stilley said that the messages came via Instagram posts and that Tuesday’s post was more direct than the one that originally closed the school on Monday.

Both days deputies searched the entire school and found nothing that would be considered dangerous.

Anyone with information about the threats is asked to contact TPSO at 985-345-6150.
