NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that left a cyclist dead in New Orleans East late Monday night.
According to the NOPD, a man riding a bicycle was struck by an unidentified vehicle near the intersection of Haynes Boulevard and Paris Road before 10 p.m.
He was pronounced dead on the scene.
The unknown vehicle drove away before police arrived.
NOPD officials said they're investigating the fatal hit-and-run and no further information, including about the vehicle, were immediately available.
The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine the official cause of death and release the victim's name upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.

It's the second fatal hit-and-run in New Orleans in the same day. Early Monday morning, just after midnight, a woman was intentionally struck and killed while trying to break up a fight near Bourbon Street, NOPD officials said.
The driver in that incident also fled the scene and is currently wanted by the police for murder.
