Majority of Cantrell recall money came from notable GOP donor, report says

Richard Farrell, one of the co-owners of Walk-Ons, donated most of the $488K in funds raised by Cantrell recall effort this quarter.

NEW ORLEANS — The campaign finance report for the effort to recall New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell has been released, and a majority of the funds come from one notable donor.

Richard Farrell, one of the co-owners of Walk-Ons as well as a major developer, donated most of the near $488k in funds that the recall effort raised this quarter.

Farrell is a regular GOP donor who frequently drops thousands of dollars to GOP campaigns across the country.

Farrell was one of Louisiana's largest contributors to Donald Trump's 2020 presidential bid.

Our partners at NOLA.com report that the petition needs to collect 53,000 signatures to force a recall by Ash Wednesday.

“I don’t want someone destroying our city as the mayor is doing,” Farrell said in October. “I care about the city. My businesses won’t succeed unless the city succeeds. This is my home at the end of the day."
