An allegedly impaired driver was arrested after a crash that killed a motorcyclist and injured four of his passengers.
According to Louisiana State Police, 30-year-old Eric Bales was driving south on LA 47 around 3 p.m. Thursday when he turned left onto Marina Road. As he crossed the North-bound lanes, a motorcyclist hit the side of his car.
Police identified the driver of that motorcycle as 34-year-old Kody Duhon. He was ejected from the motorcycle and died on the scene. According to police, Duhon was “carelessly operating the motorcycle at a high rate of speed prior to the crash.”
Eric Bales was not injured in the crash, but his four passengers were taken to the hospital with injuries. Police say a 52-year-old woman, a 21-year-old woman, and a 7-year-old child all had minor injuries. A 28-year-old woman was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
State Police say Eric Bales was impaired at the time of the crash. He was arrested for Vehicular Homicide, 1st Degree Vehicular Negligent Injuring, Vehicular Negligent Injury (3 counts), Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance.
A routine toxicology test will be performed on Duhon as well. The crash remains under investigation.
