ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH, La. — A Hammond woman is dead after her disabled car was struck by another vehicle on Interstate 55 Sunday night.

According to Louisiana State Police, two separate crashes happened around 7:30 p.m. near mile marker 3 on I-55.

Troopers say 48-year-old Oneil Trosclair was driving with 41-year-old Eliska Trosclair when "for reasons under investigation" lost control of their 2007 Ford Crown Victoria. The sedan struck a concrete barrier wall and blocked the left lane of the highway.

Investigators say the Trosclairs were standing on the left shoulder when another vehicle, driven by 42-year-old Jennifer Beiriger, struck the disabled sedan. The sedan then struck Eliska Trosclair. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Beiriger and two other passengers were wearing seatbelts and suffered minor injuries.

State Police say troopers observed that Oneil Trosclair had signs of impairment. He was booked into the St. John the Baptist Parish Jail on DWI, no driver's license and careless operation charges.

The investigation into the crash continues.
