Watch out for New Year's weekend parking and driving restrictions

The City of New Orleans has released strict no-parking and no-traffic rules for the next few days in multiple neighborhoods.

With New Year's Eve around the corner and the 2019 Sugar Bowl on New Year's Day, the city is restricting traffic and parking in parts of the Marigny, French Quarter and Central Business District. 

Traffic and parking restrictions start on Saturday night and will be enforced until early Tuesday morning.

See the city's maps of restrictions to make sure you don't get stuck in a no-traffic or no-parking area in the next few days: 

Traffic Restrictions

No vehicles are allowed in the following areas during the following times: 

From 8 p.m. - 4 a.m. overnight on Saturday, Sunday, Monday & Tuesday

  • Bourbon St. from Canal St. to Dumaine St.
  • 700-800 blocks of St. Ann St., Orleans Ave., St. Peter St., Toulouse St., St. Louis St., Conti St., Bienville St., and Iberville St.

This is the red rectangle on the map. 

2 p.m. - 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31 (Allstar Sugar Bowl Parade Route)

  • Elysian Fields Ave. from Decatur St. to N. Peters St.
  • N. Peters St. from Elysian Fields Ave. to Canal St.

This is the purple line on the map. 

8 p.m. - 4 a.m. overnight Monday, Dec. 31

  • Frenchmen St. from Royal St. to Decatur St.

This is the blue line on the map. 

Vehicular traffic is limited to residents, employees, hotel guests and taxis/TNCS in the following places: 

8 p.m. - 4 a.m. overnight Saturday, Sunday, Monday & Tuesday

  • Entering the French Quarter within the perimeter of Canal St., Decatur St., Dumaine St., and Rampart St.

  • Kerlerec St. from Bourbon St. to Chartres St.
  • Royal St. from Esplanade Ave. to Frenchmen St.

  • 700-800 blocks of St. Ann St., Orleans Ave., St. Peter St., Toulouse St., St. Louis St., Conti St., Bienville St., and Iberville St.
  • Bourbon St. from St. Ann to Dumaine St.

6 p.m. - 6 a.m. overnight Saturday, Sunday, Monday & Tuesday

  • Canal St. from Claiborne Ave. to Convention Center Blvd.

This is the dark red line on the map. 

10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31

  • Elysian Fields Ave. (uptown side only) from Burgundy St. to N. Peters St. 

  • N. Peters St. from Esplanade Ave. to Dumaine St.

  • Decatur St. from Dumaine St. to St. Phillip St.

10 a.m. - 4 a.m. overnight Monday, Dec. 31

  • Decatur St. from Dumaine St. to Conti St.

6 p.m. - 3 a.m. overnight Monday, Dec. 31

  • Frenchmen St. from Royal St. to Decatur St.

This is the small blue line on the map. 

Here are the cities tips for parking:

  • Do not block hydrants, driveways and sidewalks.
  • Do not park within 20 feet of a crosswalk, intersection, or stop sign.
  • Park in the direction of travel on one-way streets and with the right wheel to the curb on two-way streets.

The festivities kick off on Sunday with the Allstate Fan Fest in the Jax Brewery parking lot. Then there's the Allstate New year's Eve Parade on Monday afternoon and tricentennial fireworks around the city on Monday night. 

If that weren't enough, Tuesday night is the 85th Annual Allstate Sugar Bowl in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, with the Allstate Fan Jam that afternoon in Champions Square.
