NEWORLEANS- Police say an attack that left a mother and daughter dead in New Orleans East was not a random attack.

Police say officers arrived at the Wind Run apartments on the I-10 Service Road shortly after 3:15 a.m. Monday. Officers responded to a call of shots fired inside an apartment.

They found 20-year-old Ryesha Arbuthnot stabbed to death in the parking lot. She had also been shot several times. Her mother, 45-year-old Lisa Arbuthnot was found inside the apartment dead from gunshot wounds to the head.

'Between say 3:00 something and 4:00, I heard a pop, pop and I heard another young lady screaming and hollering,' said Michelle Jordan, who lives in an apartment near the crime scene.

'The guy was on top of the girl, just stabbing her,' said a neighbor named Cheri. 'That's all I really know about it.'

Neighbors said that up until this deadly incident there were no obvious signs of problems in the apartment.

One of the witnesses said the suspect was someone dressed in all black, who was hard to see in the driveway during the darkened night.
