NEW ORLEANS -- A new animal medical center is offering everything from surgeries to vaccines to checkups at a reduced rate.
The Low Cost Animal Medical Center at 4300 Washington Ave opened this week with the hopes of reducing the number of strays in the city, said President of the Board Amanda Rizzo.
"We hope to reach people who have never brought a pet in, we hope to help out the rescue groups so they can rescue more pets,” Rizzo said.
Anyone is welcome, and no appointment is necessary. The center says the goal is to keep pets with their owners.
"I don't think most people want to surrender a pet," Rizzo said. "It's a last-ditch effort to do something good for a pet by not abandoning it and by bringing it to a shelter."
Staff member Tracey Pierceson said she hopes affordable vet care will solve that issue.
"The pets of New Orleans need a place where they can go whether they're sick, whether they're healthy and just need their vaccines," Pierceson said. "They need to know there's affordable vet care out there.”
While no appointment is necessary, you can schedule an appointment by calling (504) 444-1124.
