N.O. man acquitted of murder in fatal 2014 shooting of Domino's delivery driver

Five years after the death of Richard Yaeger, one of the men accused in his murder has been acquitted

NEW ORLEANS — A 21-year-old New Orleans man was acquitted in the murder of a Domino’s pizza delivery driver, even though an electronic ankle monitor placed him and a co-defendant at the murder scene.

Shane Hughes had been tried once before, but the jury couldn’t arrive at a verdict. Thursday evening, a new jury came back with an acquittal in the 2014 fatal shooting of Richard Yeager

Hughes was accused of being with Rendell Brown before Yeager’s murder, but has said that he ran away from the scene before Brown killed Yeager.

Rendell Brown previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the case and is now serving a 40-year sentence.

Yeager, a 35-year-old Hunstville, Alabama, native was a French Quarter karaoke DJ who was working a second job as a delivery driver when he was killed Sept. 22, 2014, in the 2800 block of St. Louis Street in Mid-City.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office said Yeager was shot 10 times before he was left to die in the middle of the street.

His Toyota Corolla was stolen after the shooting and was found later in Gert Town after a hit-and-run accident. Brown and Hughes were arrested hours later.

Brown and Hughes were 16 when they were arrested for Yaeger’s killing.
