Acker, who is a convicted felon, was taken into custody and the gun was recovered, police said. Authorities later learned the firearm had been reported stolen.

The victim agreed to meet Acker in person after meeting on a dating website, authorities said. The suspect drove from Gretna to pick the victim up in Terrebonne Parish and drove to Martin Luther King Park in Thibodaux, police said.

Acker then pulled out a gun and demanded the victim’s purse, money and cellphone, police said. The suspect tried to flee the scene but his car became was stuck in mud.

Acker denied the allegations and claimed the money had been willfully given to him, authorities said. Acker told police that after learning the victim was actually a male and not a female as he had assumed, he told the victim to get out of his car.

Acker was booked into the Lafourche Parish jail on a $335,000 bond.
