NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival opened its gates at 12:30 to a smallish, but boisterous crowd after a 90-minute delay due to heavy rain storms. More rain was forecast for the afternoon, but that didn't deter the hardy Jazz Fest patrons.

Meanwhile the Zurich Classic had to pull players from the course around 9:45 a.m. due to the severe weather. The PGA Tour stop tried to re-start around 1 p.m., but lightning in the area delayed that again, until at least 4 p.m.

The Jazz Fest announced a 're-organized' set of performance cubes around the delay.

Thursday is the first day Jazz Fest and the PGA Tour stop in New Orleans, but a strong line of storms disrupted both events.

The early players were able to get several holes in, but the bulk of the players have yet to tee off, including the entire afternoon pairings.
