Elfrid Payton out 6 weeks for the New Orleans Pelicans with broken finger

Payton was expected to be the replacement for Rajon Rondo in being the distributor and playmaker, unfortunately, he has been on the sidelines for much of the early part of the season.

NEW ORLEANS – Point guard Elfrid Payton, who had just returned after missing nine games with a sprained ankle, will now miss six additional weeks after he sprained his finger against the Knicks Friday night.

The Pelicans said Payton would undergo surgery this week.

Payton was expected to be the replacement for Rajon Rondo in being the distributor and playmaker, unfortunately, he has been on the sidelines for much of the early part of the season, and now will likely be gone until the new year.

Payton had been averaging 9.7 points and 5.3 assists per game as the Pelicans jumped out to a 4-1 start with him in the lineup.
