Zion will 'continue his rehabilitation,' Pelicans don't give timeline for return

The Pelicans clinched a spot in the play-in tournament with a Wednesday night OT win over the Grizzlies.

NEW ORLEANS — The Pelicans didn't close the door on Zion Williamson returning for the playoffs — but they didn't open it either.

The Pelicans announced today that their star forward will "continue his rehabilitation and conditioning regimen," but didn't say when he could return to the court.

"After further evaluation, it has been determined that Zion Williamson will continue his rehabilitation and conditioning regimen," Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations David Griffin. "We will continue to monitor his progression and updates will be provided as warranted."

Williamson pulled up on a routine move up the court in a Jan. 2 game. He was expected back in a few weeks, but re-injured the hamstring prior to the All-Star game that he was selected to start. That set him back further and fans have watched as his progress has come glacially.

The Pelicans, who have plummeted in the standings from the top three spots when Zion left in early January to clinching a spot in the play-in tournament with just two games left in the season.

Prior to the injury, he had a strong start to the 2022-2023 season, averaging 26 points, 7 rebounds and 4.6 assists per games. But due to his injury he has only played 29 games this season.
