Brees congratulates his Alma mater on taking down No. 2 Ohio State

Drew Brees' alma mater took down one of the top teams in the country.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has a lot on his mind, with Sunday’s pivotal road game against the Baltimore Ravens drawing closer by the minute. But Brees took some time Saturday night to send some love to the program that put him into the NFL, and for great reason: his unranked Purdue Boilermakers dropped a 49-20 upset on the Ohio State Buckeyes, the team ranked second-highest in the country.

Brees addressed both Purdue’s football team and Boilermakers superfan Tyler Trent on Twitter, expressing how proud he was of their big win. Brees has become more involved with Purdue’s athletics department in recent years, donating $1-million in 2015 and dropping $264,000 at auction to donate a historic Purdue basketball jersey to the school.

You have to imagine there’s some ribbing going on between Brees and his favorite wide receiver and outspoken Buckeyes supporter, Michael Thomas. Ohio State was favored by two touchdowns in this road game, only to get shocked and awed at every time by a Boilermakers team that stayed ready for action. Maybe Brees is going to feed off that energy and shake the yips that sometimes plague him on the road, completing his own upset victory in Baltimore.
