Rams now the lead dog in NFC playoff race

The Saints now need help to clinch the number one seed throughout.

Here's how the NFL playoff picture looks as Week 13 begins.

NFC

1. Los Angeles Rams (10-1): NFC West leader. A win Sunday or loss by the Seahawks gives L.A. the division crown. More important, New Orleans' defeat now means the Rams once again control their fate in quest for home-field advantage.

2. New Orleans Saints (10-2): NFC South leader. Stunning loss to Cowboys on Thursday night knocks them out of top spot and leaves them in need of help to ultimately claim No. 1 seed. They'll also have to wait another week to secure berth.

3. Chicago Bears (8-3): NFC North leader. Enjoying mini bye after Thanksgiving win, though apparently Mitch Trubisky hasn't sufficiently recovered to play yet.

4. Dallas Cowboys (7-5): NFC East leader. Upset of Saints ensures another week atop division and time to rest ahead of Eagles' visit in Week 14.

5. Minnesota Vikings (6-4-1): Wild card No. 1. Outlasted Packers to maintain tenuous grip on berth.

6. Washington Redskins (6-5): Wild card No. 2. Carolina has now lost to Washington and Seattle, but Redskins get the spot (instead of Seahawks) for time being due to better record in NFC games.

In the hunt: Carolina Panthers (6-5), Seattle Seahawks (6-5), Philadelphia Eagles (5-6), Green Bay Packers (4-6-1), Atlanta Falcons (4-7), Detroit Lions (4-7), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-7)
