ESPN's Todd Archer is reporting that the NFL has fined Cowboys' linebacker Jaylon Smith $26,739 for the 'helmet to helmet' hit on Saints RB Alvin Kamara in last Thursday night's contest.

The flagrant hit knocked Kamara out of the game and he appeared to go through concussion protocol, but he did return.

Smith was not flagged for the hit. The report by Archer says that Smith will appeal.

"It's the last gladiator sport," said Smith earlier in the week to reporters. "As I was going to tackle him he turned his body at the last second and I hit him."

Smith denied he had any ill intent, but the commentators on the air and several online said that it was an obvious 'helmet to helmet' hit and should have been flagged.
