Report: New Orleans Saints LT Terron Armstead out for 3-4 weeks due to pectoral injury

New Orleans Saints LT Terron Armstead exited his game against the Cincinnati Bengals with a shoulder injury on Sunday.

New Orleans Saints LT Terron Armstead is expected to be out for 3-4 weeks after going down with a pectoral injury against the Bengals, according to NFL Network report.

Ian Rapoport, citing anonymous sources, broke the news on Twitter Wednesday morning.

“The #Saints are expected to be without LT Terron Armstead for a period of roughly 3-4 weeks, source said,” Rapoport’s tweet says. “Armstead injured his pec during last week’s game and was replaced by Jermon Bushrod. They face the #Eagles this week.”

The team said Armstead exited his game against the Cincinnati Bengals with a shoulder injury on Sunday. It’s a big disappointment for the 27-year old who has struggled to stay healthy in five years as a pro.

Armstead angrily stomped to the blue sideline medical tent after burying a Bengals linebacker on a run play. He was then seen jogging to the Saints locker room without helmet or pads.

This is actually a better outcome than what was initially feared. Armstead had to have his labrum repaired in his right shoulder last offseason, and it was possible that he reinjured that against the Cincinnati Bengals, requiring another surgery. Instead, the Saints star left tackle will only have to miss less than a month while a former starter, Jermon Bushrod, fills in.

The downside, of course, is that Armstead will miss a critical stretch of the season when the Saints play three games in two weeks: Sunday, Nov. 18 at home versus the Philadelphia Eagles, a rematch with the Atlanta Falcons on the following Thursday, Nov. 22, and then that Cowboys road trip to close out the month. The rest of the offensive line should hold up – all five starters are eligible for the 2019 Pro Bowl – but there are some tough defensive fronts on the way.
