Saints pick up Patriots defensive lineman

Brown is a former first-round pick by the Pats, who has been on the roster for four years and was a regular starter.

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Saints will sign Patriots’ defensive tackle Malcom Brown to a three-year deal worth $15 million, the team announced Thursday.

Brown is a former first-round pick by the Pats, who has been on the roster for four years and has been a regular starter, though not a standout.

Brown is 25-years old and stands 6’2 and weighs 320 pounds.

He started 51 of the 60 games he played in his four years. Last season he had 39 tackles with no sacks. The previous three years he had averaged 49 tackles and nearly three sacks per season.

The Saints are in need of depth on the defensive line with Sheldon Rankins expected to be slow to return after his injury late last season.
