NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Saints have signed former New York Giants DE Mario Edwards, Jr. to a two-year contract. 

In 2018, Edwards appeared in 15 games for the Giants, posted 14 tackles, two sacks, three stops for loss, five quarterback hits and one forced fumble. He was originally drafted to the NFL by the Oakland Raiders in 2015. In his final season in Oakland, he opened all 14 games he played in and made 23 stops, and had 3.5 quarterback takedowns.

Over his three-year career at Florida State, he started 26 of 36 games and finished with 89 tackles, eight sacks, 23 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and seven passes defended.

Edwards was born in Gautier, Mississippi. His father, Mario Edwards, also played at FSU and played five seasons in the NFL as a cornerback.
