Thomas Morstead gives Saints fans a Christmas miracle they'll never forget with small gesture

Eyewitness News first shared the video of a young Who Dat getting a glove from Saint's punter Thomas Morstead Monday, and the girl's reaction has been melting hearts since. We've now found the girl, and her story may just renew your belief in Christmas magic.

DOTHAN, Ala. -- At the Niedzwecki household, it's still hard to believe what happened last Sunday.

"This happens to other people," Amberly Mouton-Niedzwecki said.

But the story of how Thomas Morstead's left glove ended in the hands of this young Who Dat, Aubrey Niedzwecki, actually begins with an elf.

"They come after you put the Christmas tree up," Aubrey, Amberly's daughter explained, showing us her "Elf on the Shelf."

Tinley is one of Santa's elves that's been coming to the Niedzwecki home each year. Elves like her are believed to travel back and forth to the North Pole to tell Santa about what they see, kids can tell them their wishes, but there's a rule, no one can touch them.

Coincidentally, the Niedzweckis had been trying to get Saints tickets in New Orleans because, as a family this year, they decided they would rather have an experience together than traditional gifts, but the tickets were too expensive.

Hearing all the Saints talk, Tinley must have gotten an idea, because she soon arrived with a note. It says, she knew the "fam bam" loved the Saints...

"And it was hard to find tickets to the game, so I brought this for you, and she was just holding the tickets," Aubery said.

The tickets were for the Buccaneers game in Tampa Bay. The rest is history.

"I saw Thomas Morstead kind of looking in our direction and I started hollering his name and a lot of people were, but then I saw him running right towards us," Aubery's dad, Jonathan, Niedzwecki, recalled of the moment Morstead walked over to the end zone.

"I didn't really expect that, it was just basically a miracle," Aubrey said.

The glove hasn't left Aubrey's side since, and it means so much to the entire family.

"It's hard not to cry right now," Amberly described of her nerves.

It turns out, Amberly and Jonathan are both from Louisiana, and back in 2010, they lived in Slidell.

"She was born there, and that's when the Saints won," she said.

And now together, even far away, their combined Saints passion has been stronger than ever. This past game day, the family drove five hours to Tampa and cheered until their voices were just about gone.

For Aubrey's part, she danced her tail off to the Sean Payton just for good luck.

"Yeah, I just wore a glove on my left hand and I gave it to her randomly," Thomas Morstead told Eyewitness News Tuesday.

Of course, Morstead could have just headed back to the locker room after the win, but he didn't.

"It just took a small gesture, just a few seconds to walk over there, and the impact that he had,” Amberly said.

Just a simple act of kindness, but it's given this family a cherished memory for a lifetime, exactly what they wished for this Christmas.
