NEW ORLEANS — Saints backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is expected to bypass more lucrative offers and remain with the team, according to the NFL Network's Jane Slater.

Bridgewater was brought in last season as protection in case of an injury to Pro Bowl quarterback Drew Brees.

Bridgwater had two good seasons for the Minnesota Vikings in 2014 and 15 before suffering a devastating knee injury in 2016.

Bridgewater sat out most of a year and was signed by the Saints in 2018.

He did not play much at all in 2018, doing mostly mop-up duty and playing in the season's final, unimportant game against Carolina, during which, behind a makeshift line and with many starters missing, he completed 14 of 22 passes for 118 yards and one touchdown and one interception.

Slater reports that Bridgewater is turning down a better financial offer because he prefers the locker room atmosphere and the chance to be the successor to Brees.
