Eastbound I-10 closed once again after 18-wheeler catches fire

For the second time in two days eastbound traffic was shut down on the interstate for a response to a fire.

KENNER, La. — Eastbound I-10 near Williams Blvd. in Kenner was shut down Wednesday night after what Kenner Police describe as an “18-wheeler with a trailer of Budweiser beer” caught on fire and had to be extinguished.

Traffic cameras from the Department of Transportation showed multiple emergency vehicles in the area.

Police said the incident occurred around 7:25 p.m. and that one lane of traffic had reopened around 9 p.m.

According to Kenner Police Lieutenant Michael Cunningham, the driver of the vehicle said they observed flames coming from the driver’s side, under the cab. The driver pulled the truck to the right lane of the interstate and exited the vehicle shortly before the truck became engulfed in flames.

The Kenner Fire Department responded to the fire and put it out.

The closure of eastbound I-10 comes one day after a helicopter crashed onto the eastbound lanes near the Bonnet Carre Spillway and shut down eastbound traffic for several hours.
