LACOMBE, La. — A man from New Orleans was identified as the driver killed in a single-vehicle crash in St. Tammany Parish Friday afternoon.

State police responded to the crash, on I-12 near LA 434, shortly before 4:30 p.m.

Police say 20-year-old Terrance J. Leblanc was driving eastbound on the interstate with a passenger when the car drove off the road and into a tree.

Leblanc, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, died from his injuries. The passenger, who was not identified, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators said they do not believe impairment to be a factor in the crash, but say speed likely played a role.

A toxicology report on Leblanc is pending, the Louisiana State Police said in a statement.
