KENNER, La. — A car drove off I-10, through a fence and into a neighborhood street in Kenner Monday morning, killing the driver.
The eastbound I-10 was shut down for about 15 minutes around 8:20 a.m., with drivers being diverted off the freeway at the Loyola Drive exit.
Kenner police said the single-vehicle crash happened around 5 a.m. just east of Loyola Drive.
The driver of the vehicle was described by police as a man in his late 60s. His identity was not released pending notification of his next of kin.
At the scene, investigators were still trying to determine what caused the fatal crash hours later, outlining where the vehicle came to rest with red spray paint and marking distances with a measuring wheel.
Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash, investigators said.
The crash caused heavy traffic on the eastbound I-10 headed towards New Orleans.
