BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana's transportation department has pushed back the date it expects to finish repairs to a damaged Mississippi River bridge.
The Sunshine Bridge in Donaldsonville is partially open, with limitations, as the repairs continue from a barge collision that damaged the bridge in October.
The Department of Transportation and Development said Wednesday that the emergency repairs should be completed mid-March. Prior estimates were that the repairs would be done by January, but DOTD says rain and freezing temperatures caused delays.
After the emergency repairs are finished, lane restrictions and closures still will be in place until a maintenance project scheduled before the barge collision is complete.
DOTD says that maintenance work is expected to be done in August.
