Have your passport ready as you enter into the fascinating world of Louisiana Creoles who, at this historic site, lived charmed and tragic lives apart from mainstream America for over 200 years. Located upriver from New Orleans in the heart of Plantation Country, Laura’s acclaimed guided tour, “The Creole Family Saga,” is based upon 5,000 pages of family documents found in the French National Archives and upon Laura Locoul’s own Memories of the Old Plantation Home, a first-hand, compelling account of the owners, women, slaves and children who lived and worked on this historic sugarcane homestead. The 75-minute tour includes the manor house, grounds with 11 structures on the National Register, 3 gardens (formal French parterre, the kitchen potager and Banana-Land grove) and 1840s slave cabins. On-site is the Laura Plantation Store with a Cajun-Creole seafood restaurant right next door.
